Fear can stop you from taking action. If you have a dream that you want to achieve, you have to be ready and willing to take action and perform the necessary steps that will move you toward your ultimate goal. It may seem as if some people are experts at pushing through their fears, and maybe they are, but don’t worry, you too can become an expert with at pushing thorough your fear so you can follow your dreams and live a life full of purpose and happiness. You’ll be shocked by how much your mindset will change when you try these tips for finding your courage to push through the fear!
Visualize success. Fear comes from imagining the worst and if we are unsure of an outcome, our minds can easily wander down a dark path. However, no one fears a positive outcome so one simple trick you can use to overcome fear is to imagine and visualize that positive outcome. Using all of your senses, create a realistic scene and make the visualization as real as possible. Regularly practicing positive visualization will retrain your mind to focus on positive scenarios rather than the worst case scenarios and after a little practice, it will become second nature.
Imagine someone you love is watching you. It’s easy to let fear take over when you’re alone, but have you ever noticed that the presence of a friend or a loved one can make you a little bolder? Imagine you are with your best friend or your partner or even your child and act in accordance with the kind of example you want to set for the people you care about and that care about you.
Visualize what a brave person would do. Think of someone you consider to be courageous. How does this person act? What type of attitude do they have? How do they handle certain situations? Visualize that person navigating your situation and choose that course of action.
Set a benchmark date. If you knew you had no choice but to accomplish something by the end of the week, would you be more motivated to act? If you have a goal but no real timeframe for achieving it, it is easy to get sidetracked by other things or to keep pushing back the timeline. It can seem scary and overwhelming to say, “I will quit my job next year and start my own business.” But when you change that to, “I will complete some research on small business loans by the end of this month,” suddenly the task at hand doesn’t seem overwhelming anymore. When you’ve hit that benchmark, set another one, and so forth.
Change your body language. Breathe deeply, stand tall, and look straight ahead and notice the difference you instantly feel. Body language is connected to our mindset and our self-image, and when we carry ourselves with confidence, we feel confident in ourselves. This simple trick will not only boost your confidence, but it will also motivate you to take action because confident people believe in themselves!
